The Shepards and the Angels

25 Dec

Luke 2:8-20 ( The Message)

There were sheepherders camping in the neighborhood. They had set night watches over their sheep. Suddenly, God’s angel stood among them and God’s glory blazed around them. They were terrified. The angel said, “Don’t be afraid. I’m here to announce a great and joyful event that is meant for everybody, worldwide: A Savior has just been born in David’s town, a Savior who is Messiah and Master. This is what you’re to look for: a baby wrapped in a blanket and lying in a manger.”

At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises:

Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him.

As the angel choir withdrew into heaven, the sheepherders talked it over. “Let’s get over to Bethlehem as fast as we can and see for ourselves what God has revealed to us.” They left, running, and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. Seeing was believing. They told everyone they met what the angels had said about this child. All who heard the sheepherders were impressed.

Mary kept all these things to herself, holding them dear, deep within herself. The sheepherders returned and let loose, glorifying and praising God for everything they had heard and seen. It turned out exactly the way they’d been told!

Fourth Sunday of Advent

19 Dec

Lord Jesus, increase our faith so that we might believe that nothing is impossible with God. May we continue to be a people with dreams and visions of the possible – a human community of understanding and acceptance. May we be ready to risk as Mary did to make these dreams come true. Open us to know the power of Your presence today and everyday. Amen.

Something About Mary

1 Sep

Matthew 1:18-25

Imagine this, Mary, Jesus mother was a virgin and she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. An angel came to her to tell her the great news! Mary must have been overwhelmed by these words she did not expect to hear. This news must have made no sense to her. How did this happen?, Why her, What made God single her out to make her the mother of His son.
After the shock she accepted God’s plan for her life. But she was engaged to Joseph, not yet married. This had to been difficult, I remember feeling a little bit “scarlet letter” when I separated with Malachi & Mason’s Dad (due to circumstances beyond my control) pregnant with Mason. I could not imagine what it was like back in bible days, women who had (S-E-X) out of marriage were stoned. Joseph was a good man and stood at her side and married her. However I assume that rumors flew across town amongst the people (because that is what happens when people do not know the whole situation). Only having Joseph & Elizabeth there to talk to and to understand what was going on. I was so blessed with a strong support group of friends and family during my time of need.
Mary had God. She turned to Him in this time of need. She had to trust Him completely. Trust God was in complete control and that He knew what He was doing.
You and I can learn from Mary that God will come through for us NO MATTER WHAT the situation. Your life may not end up how you wanted it or thought of but it will end up better than you can ever imagine when you trust in Him.

Here are a few more verses about Trusting God in your Circumstances:

20 Whoever listens to what is taught will succeed,
and whoever trusts the Lord will be happy. (Proverbs 16:20, New Century Version)

7 The Lord is good,
giving protection in times of trouble.
He knows who trusts in him. (Nahum 1:7, New Century Version)

16 Because of these things, this is what the Lord God says:
“I will put a stone in the ground in Jerusalem,
a tested stone.
Everything will be built on this important and precious rock.
Anyone who trusts in it will never be disappointed. (Isaiah 28:16, New Century Version)

13 I pray that the God who gives hope will fill you with much joy and peace while you trust in him. Then your hope will overflow by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13, New Century Version)
