Genesis 39: The Seduction

6 Apr

Genesis 39:11-15 Potiphar’s wife attempted to seduce Joseph was probably not unusual. Bored Egyptian “housewives” may have at times turned to “well built and handsome” servants to provide them will a little spice in their mundane days. Some commentators suggest that Potiphar’s position was that of the executioners. Joseph is very fortunate to have been able to escape from this “desperate housewife” with his life. In fact Potiphar saw favor in Joseph and trusted him with responsibility. Therefore his house was blessed through Joseph. Joseph comes away with his honor and morals in tact, he sees that there is more out there than him and a wayward wife. This act is a sin not only against the husband but also to God!
